To meet the needs of deserving students who needed financial aid to attend the college of their choice, the Dayton-Montgomery County Scholarship Program (DMCSP) was established in 1981.

From its beginnings serving students in the Dayton City Schools, DMCSP has grown to include 23 participating school districts in Montgomery County. Currently, students in Montgomery County who earned their GED during the current academic year are also eligible, and 29 high schools are involved in the program.

Within the Internal Revenue Code’s 501(c)(3) organization category, the Dayton-Montgomery County Scholarship Program (DMCSP) was and is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt corporation. To attain specific economies and enhance the program’s integration with other local scholarship initiatives, the DMCSP partnered with The Dayton Foundation in July 2006.

For the first year of advanced study, scholarships are given out every May. The DMCSP has given more than 18,000 graduating seniors awards totaling more than $18.1 million since its founding. Students received awards totaling more than $632,000 from DMCSP for the 2017–2018 school year.

How to apply?

For qualified students at participating high schools, the DMCSP application is accessible online. Guidance counselor instructions and log-on information must be obtained by students.

  • Request the deadline and your login information from your counselor, as directed by the counselor, and complete the online application.
  • Publish the application, date, and sign the application back.
  • If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian must also sign the application.
  • Bring the application and a copy of the summary page from your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to your counselor. Your application cannot be processed unless you have the page with the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC).
  • The acceptance letter from the college you indicated on your application as your top choice should also be brought.
  • DMCSP will receive applications uploaded by counselors. Students are unable to upload applications.

In 2023, 405 scholarships were given to graduates by the Dayton-Montgomery County Scholarship Program. Over 21,500 applicants have received awards totaling over $23,900,000 from the Dayton-Montgomery County Scholarship Program to date.

Student recipients of 364 renewable scholarships worth $1,645,000 were given admission to four-year colleges and universities. Awardees from every Dayton Public high school were given six Ruth Richardson Memorial Scholarships, each worth an extra $1,000.

Requirements:

To keep your scholarship at Iowa State, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Iowa State students must maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.
  2. A minimum of 12 semester credits must be continuously enrolled each semester (summer not included).
  3. This award can only be given to students who have been assessed for international tuition.
  4. All undergraduate tuition and fees must be paid with the award.
